Thanks to all who helped out at the club's annual working bee, the club has never looked as clean. Many jobs were done including garden maintenance, thorough cleaning of the club house, court maintenance, spreading of sand on the courts and adding new shade cloth behind courts one and two. Everyone certainly earned their barbequed sausage at the end.

Poll Results.
Our latest poll has now finished and the results are in. But first, the question was: Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova recently won the 2008 Australian Open. Were they worthy winners?
33% of voters stated that Both Deserved it, 33% said Djokovic only, Sharapova scared everyone away with that screech, 17% said Sharapova only, Djokovic only beat Federer because he was sick. and 16% said Neither, the players of yesteryear would have thrashed them. The results were interesting, to say the least.

Corowa Easter Tournament Results
Many club members made the trip again to the Corowa Easter Tournament, which is in Southern NSW, on the Murray river between Yarrawonga and Albury/Woodonga, and the Club was represented well throughout.
Ashley Mann and Chrissy Temple came runners up in the A-Grade Ladies Doubles, while there were a couple close semi-final losses by Jan Fielding / Warren Peters (B-Grade Mixed Doubles) and Chrissy Temple / Aaron Sharpe (A-Grade Mixed Doubles). All involved raved about the tournament, a great deal of Tennis and Golf was played by all. All the entrants are looking forward to next year's tournament and all members are encouraged to attend, as this is an event that you shouldn't miss.

A Letter from the President
Dear Members,
It has come to the attention of the committee in the past months that many members have not been paying for the use of lights when they have used them. We will remind everyone that it is $10 per hour per court.
This is a form of stealing and will not be tolerated any longer.
In addition we would like to remind our members of the rules of having visitors playing at our courts. They must be supervised by a member at all times and should not be left alone at all. Furthermore, a visitors fee is needed to be paid upon arrival. Juniors are $1 each and Adults are $3.
We would like to emphasise the low price for visitors. It is not a great deal of money and it is expected of our members to be honest enough to pay for the use of the courts.
Please note members, the above mentioned topics will no longer be tolerated by any member. The committee does not want to change the honour system we have in place now and have had for many years, however if this trend continues stronger consequences will be enforced.
For repeat offenders, a possible termination of membership will occur.
Help the club who continues to provide you with fantastic facilities and a great atmosphere.
Regards,
Aaron Sharpe
President Doutta Galla Tennis Club
Trivia Night Results.

The first annual Doutta Galla Trivia Night went off with a bang on Saturday the 2nd of February, with over 60 people thoroughly enjoying themselves and testing their knowledge. After taking an early lead, the "Sik Dogiezz" table consisting of Michele & Michael Benton, Rose & Mark Swindon, Sharon Spyrou, John Beyer, Kieran Benton & Alexander Swindon held off challenges throughout the night from two other tables to take the crown, with nearly 90% of the questions answered correctly.
The "Eggheads" and "Hugh Jorrgens" came in second and third, respectively, with the Eggheads taking the siver medal in the final two rounds, both answering between 80-85% of the questions correctly.
The Scoreboard will be uploaded when it is located, as some people were unhappy with the result and took it out on the defenceless electronic scoreboard.
A large amount of money was raised for the club, with many people giving generously to help their "cause" by "buying answers" for one dollar. The night was a huge success, with plans already in place for next years event.
Presenting the DouttaGalla.com Special Awards:
- Most Inventive Table Name: went to the table entitled "Have you met my friend Aleks?". It is still undetermined who Aleks actually is, but he is now everyone's friend.
- Longest Table Name: went to a table who's name was totally organic and kept growing longer as the night went on, which was the table "Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasive Forearms". Pity they couldn't use their muscles to answer any questions, and were cellar dwellars all night.
- Loudest Table: not really a contest as this award went straight to the "Courtside" table. As soon as they walked in their presence was felt throughout the bowling club.
- Best Finishers: was awarded to the table with the lowest average age, "The Dream Team" who pipped Courtside on the line to get off the bottom of the Scoreboard by half a point, which was awarded to them for their claim that Andre Aggassi played himself in the 1992 Wimbledon final and their attempt to agrue that it was Pat Rafter who played Agassi after being informed how stupid their answer was (the answer was Goran Ivanisevic). It is important to note that Courtside were deducted 5 points for having 9 table members.
- Luckiest Attendee: was given without a doubt to Jeff Tomlinson, who won the Curnows Tennis Racquet in the raffle from only buying 2 tickets, and who last weekend placed a $2 bet on at the races to win over $200. Ironically, Jeff doesn't play tennis, but he has assured the organisers that he will now take it up.
Thanks to all the organisers and those that helped set up the night, excellent M.C. Michael Mann, Markers Aaron Sharpe and Tim Benton, and Ashley Mann for her creative input in decorating the Doutta Galla Bowling Club, which never looked better.
Special Thanks go to our Sponsors for the Night, without their support the night would not be possible:
- Lincoln Salon
- Curnows Tennis

Poll Results.
Our first Web Poll has been completed with interesting results. The question When playing doubles, what side do you like to play on? was asked, with an overwhelming amount of people prefer to play on the forehand side (50%). Second were the "democratic" style of players with 29% of the vote. The Backhand side was third with 14% and the selfish result of American Doubles only came in last with 7%.
Please vote on our new poll on the left hand side of the page.

Night Time Champions
Congratulations to our champion Men's B Grade 4 and the Junior A Grade 3 teams on their premiership wins in the last two weeks.
The Men's site had a dramatic and thrilling victory over Keilor East T.C. on November 30th. The team, consisting of Russell Bedggood, Terry Benton, Michael Benton, Tim Benton, Liam Benton, Anthony Lieu & Kieran Benton, scraped into fourth position and knocked off first in the semi final. The match started off at West Brunswick, but after the first two sets, the match was moved down the road to Royal Park due to faulty court lights. After a few hard fought sets, Doutta Galla prevailed and won the final by about 12 games. Celebrations are still continuing........

UPDATE: Due to a few complaints, the font size on the draws has been increased and a few mistakes have been corrected. If anyone else notices any errors, email us.
Courts One and Two Lights Update.
As you may or may not be aware, there has been an intermittent problem with the lights on courts one and two. The southern light on court one has been a problem for many weeks, where it appeared to have a mind of its own and sometimes went on or off completely. This problem was known to the committee and it was simply a matter of logistics and availability for repairs. However, as of last night, the lights on court two did not operate correctly, which has prompted immediate action.
The problems with both courts have been corrected as of this afternoon. It was determined that the fuses for the lights on court two went on Friday night and have been fixed.
The committee apologises for any inconvenience caused to any players and hopefully we can all enjoy an uninterrupted hit under lights in the future.

New! Downloads Section
We
here at Doutta Galla have been working hard to create a very beautiful
website for everyone's enjoyment. However, we have yet to invade
everyone's home or work computer. So, to combat this, we have created a
selection (well, soon to be a selection) of wallpapers (a.k.a. Backgrounds) for your computer. Click on the picture opposite
to go to our downloads page to get it for yourself.
Junior Premierships
Doutta Galla had 3 teams out of our 5 playing in grand finals on recently and 2 out of 3 won on the night.
Congratulations to the A Reserve 1 Boys and A Reserve 3 Boys for fantastic wins. Unfortunately our combined A Special DGTC / Hadfield team were defeated narrowly.
Unfortunately the B Grade 1 and D Grade 1 Boys did not make the finals, but there is always next season.
The A Reserve 1 Boys (Kavindu, James, Drew
& Kieran, shown opposite [Click on the image for a larger
version]) played a very close match and won by 1 game! Kav fought
bravely against probably the only player that had given Kav any trouble
all season but then played a fantastic doubles with Kieran to clinch
victory (with a final shot to win the game that would have beaten Pat
Rafter himself, but that’s another story). Also great effort by James
in a narrow singles loss but to steal back a few extra games in his
singles was pivotal in making the difference on the scoreboard, Kieran
and Drew both had outstanding wins in their singles to put the team in
a good position and in the end 1 game was enough….well done boys.
The A Reserve 3 Boys led by Derek at number one, Taylor, Steven and Joel made strong going of the singles and in the end the results gave the team a four game lead heading into the two doubles, two outstanding doubles results 6-2, 6-2 saw the team pile on 8 extra games and the result was never in doubt! Derek has been outstanding all year, with Taylor at number 2 with great support, Steven has gone from strength to strength and Joel showed some uncanny flair in the final with some right and left handed (that’s right) volleys which were amazing to watch! Great win.
Unfortunately the A Special team suffered some late injuries with their number 1 girl forced to withdraw on the night and Doutta’s very own Michael Mann unavailable (school function) made the task heavy going…… Doutta’s Emma Brennan however stepped into the mix and turned it on with a great singles win at number 3, the team however was overpowered in the doubles. Special mention to our very own Jim Brennan for all the hard work he has put into the team this year and getting them to the final was outstanding in itself. Congratulations to all our teams, it was an excellent season from everyone.
Doutta Galla Powerball
As I am sure you all have noticed, we have replaced the third court earlier this year. In order to carry out this much needed work, the club had to borrow funds to finance the operation. Lucky for us a member offered the assistance free of interest. We now need to undertake some short term fundraising to cover the loan. Here is one suggestion with very minimal work.
Powerball has 45 numbers. It is drawn every week and the number is printed in the news papers. We sell each number for $20 dollars and the buyer keeps that number for 10 weeks. This means it costs $2 dollars per week to enter. Every time that number comes up, you get your money back! (potentially that could happen ten times)
It is imperative to sell all the numbers for this to work and then the club will make $750 dollars for relatively no work.
If at all interested, please write your name on the board in the club rooms on the number you want. Remember, only one number per person. Money needs to be paid in full before we start the draw. It can be paid to Annette Mann or any other committee members ASAP. If it is more convenient, it can be placed in the weekly fee envelope so long as there is a name who it is from.
Good luck and please help support the club.
Easter - COROWA 2007
A group of members spent Easter playing in a round robin tournament in Corowa, NSW. We all had a lot of fun... especially when we managed to bring home some runners up and winners prizes!
WINNERS

|
Congratulations to all who entered, especially to the winners listed above.
The Corowa Tournament was very well run and we all had a lot of fun and managed to play quite a bit of tennis on the grass courts. The Round Robin worked well and each set played was 8 games long. Special Mention to Trevor Peters for purchasing and modeling his 'Autumn Collection'!!
Big Thanks to Coach Courtney for coming up to watch and support us! A great Easter weekend was had - looking forward to Easter 08 now!

Court Three Progress
Work on the replacement of the third court is set to commence at the end of January / early Feburary.
------------------------ 2006 ------------------------
Replacement of the Third Court is Approved
After what seemed like an eternity of waiting, the Moonee Valley City Council have agreed to level our third court's surface, as court three was subject to extensive root dammage from nearby trees. Therefore our third Modified Grass court will be replaced by the club with brand new Classic Clay Surface. Work will commence soon.
Christmas Party
The Doutta Galla Christmas Party is scheduled for December 8th in association with the Doutta Galla Bowling Club. The Bowls club is going all out with a spit roast and their own bar, and is to be held over the fence in the bowling club rooms. The cost is $20 per head and includes a 2 course spit roast, drinks are at bar prices. Everyone is welcome.
If you wish to come along, either write you name down on the list in the club or send an email here.
The Junior side, consisting of Kavindu Gamage, James Reid, Drew Gilpin and Kieran Benton defeated St John Bosco's by 9 games at Moomba Park T.C. on the 7th of December. After demoralising every team throughout the year, St John Bosco's gave the boys a scare with some very close matches, however Doutta Galla prevailed and the game was won in the end. It is unfortunate that the team will no longer be together next season for various reasons, as they cannot complete the "premiership hat-trick" of 3 grand final wins in a row, having won the past two flags after two massive seasons.
